Upgraded to DOCG in 2010
Permitted Type of Wine: Red wines only
Territory: The entire territories of the towns of Rionero in Vulture, Barile, Rapolla, Ripacandida, Ginestra, Maschito, Forenza, Acerenza, Melfi, Atella (excluding however the areas of Sant’Ilario, Riparossa and Macchia), Venosa, Lavello, Palazzo San Gervasio, Banzi, Genzano di Lucania
Subzones: N/A
Permitted Varieties: 100% Aglianico or its clone Aglianico del Vulture
Minimum Aging: (i) 24 months, of which at least 12 months in wood barrels and 12 months in bottle for the base wine; (ii) 36 months, of which at least 24 months in wood barrels and 12 months in bottle for the “Riserva” wine
